This has by far been my best and most successful year as an artist. Three years ago I was the only artist I knew. Through connections in the art world I heard of the Bucky On Parade contest. It was last minute and I turned in three quick renderings. Looking back they were so rushed it's hard to believe one got chosen. My idea of the Capitol at night with fireworks was picked. I called it Strike Up The Band because it looks like a grand finale. Here are in progress pics. It was sponsored by Exact SciencesĀ and now resides in their lobby.
In July I was asked if I'd like to paint a special Bucky that was still in the works. I consulted with the sponsor, Gregg Shimanski and after weeks of waiting the blank mold was delivered. I had a two week deadline and after a day of bodywork (he wasn't as finished as the others) I got to start painting. Crazylegs Bucky sold for $37,000 at the Kohl Center finale auction. If anyone knows of his whereabouts today I'd love to hear. :) Below are links to TV broadcasts on unveil day.
